Color made simple

Ladies...are you afraid to wear color eyeshadows?  How about bright colored eyeshadows? Do you think, "I can't pull that off!" or "I would never know how to apply this color to make it look good!"  Then this is the post for you!

I look at beauty blogs and makeup pictures constantly and I recently noticed a pattern in pictures that were catching my eye.  They were all fun, bright makeup looks yet they were surprisingly simple and easy to recreate.  All of the looks focused on a single bright eyeshadow on the lids paired with very simple and minimal lips and cheeks.  Hello!  It doesn't get easier then one eyeshadow! Here are a few of my favorites I've stumbled across:

A thin line of black liner will help the lashes appear thicker.

It doesn't have to be a nude lip!  Try something in an opposing color for a bolder statement!
Here are the key points to achieving the look:
  • Spend some time on your skin.  You don't have to use a full coverage foundation, but you should take the extra time to conceal any problem areas to make the skin look as flawless as possible.
  • Keep the cheeks neutral or light.  Use colors that will look "barely there" so that the eyes do all the talking.
  • Fill in your brows! This will pull the look together and keep it fresh looking.
  • Use a white or skin colored eyeliner on your lower lash line to open up the eyes and keep them looking awake.
  • If you aren't using color on the lower lash line, then skip mascara on the lower lashes all together.  It makes the eyes top heavy, which I think is very chic.
  • The lip color is up to you!  Keep them nice and natural by using a nude lipstick pressed over the lip, or use an opposing color to really make the look even more fun and bold.
  • Think MATTE finishes for the eyes, cheeks, and lips.
Here's my version of the look!
I went for a  tealish-green color from a sleek palette.
{Natural light}
{with a flash}
...and with a little brighter coraly lip color.  I love this color combo!
Here's how simple it is to recreate this eye look:
  1. If you have oily lids, or you notice your eyeshadow tends to disappear throughout the day then start by using a primer all over the lid.
  2. Using and flat eyeshadow brush, push the color all over the lid starting at the lash line and working towards the crease.  Pressing the eyeshadow on the lid builds up the color intensity, swiping the color on with leave a wash of color.  We want intensity!
  3. Using a blending brush, blend around the edges of the shadow to soften them just a little.
  4. Apply and white or nude eyeliner to the lower waterline
  5. Give your lashes a good curl and apply a generous amount of your favorite mascara.
  6. An optional step would be to highlight the inner corner of the eye and brow bone by using the same light eyeliner or a light eyeshadow.
Viola!  I told you it was super easy, and it's also super cheap when you think about it. Hopefully this shows you how easy and beautiful a single bright eyeshadow can be to pull off!  Summer is the perfect time to pull out your favorite color and just go for it!

For the love of beauty and super simple color,
...Casey B
