Lana Del Rey

My best friend asked me to do a look inspired by Lana Del Rey, so of course I had to do it!  Lana isn’t as big in the US as she is in Europe, so if you aren’t familiar with her music you might recognize her from this H&M commercial…
(Am I the only one that thinks this commercial is boarder line creepy?!)

When going through different images of Lana, is easy to see that her makeup style is very 60’s inspired.

It’s a beautiful and classic look which requires very few products and is easy to recreate.  So let’s do this...

For the eyes in this look, I’m going to be using colors from the Naked and Naked II palette.  The key features of Lana’s look are matte eye colors and some nice dramatic winged liner.  There are only a few matte shades in these two pallets, but they are perfect for this look.  (If you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen that Urban Decay has come out with another addition to their Naked line.  It’s the Naked Basics palette which 5 out of 6 if the shades in the palette are matte!  This palette would be prefect for recreating Lana’s looks.)
-I started out by priming my lid with Urban Decay’s Primer Potion
-using a large fluffy brush, sweep “Foxy” from the lash line up to the brow.
-using a crease brush place “Tease” through the crease
-Darken the outside of the crease by lightly placing “Blackout” on the outside corner and blending in.  Do it gradually to help prevent mistakes.
-place a little of “Virgin” on the inside corner to highlight
-using a small pencil brush, place “Tease” and “Blackout” along the lower lash line
-place a white or nude eyeliner on the waterline
-Now, for the most important part—the eyeliner!  I would use a gel liner for this, since it tends to give the darkest color payoff.  If you aren’t sure how to create the perfect cat eye liner, you can check out my how-to here.  For Lana’s look, the more dramatic the better.
-last but not least, finish off with mascara and lashes!

-Lana tends to keep her face very natural with just a little contouring.  I used MAC’s blush in Taupe to define the cheekbones a little by placing it where I would normally contour, staying away from the apples of the cheeks.
-Then to highlight the face a little I used the lightest color from the Coastal Scents 6 Contour Blush Palette, and ran it along the tops of the cheek bones, on the brow bone, down the bridge of the nose, and along the cupids bow on my lips.

-Lana’s signature lip is a very full, nude, matte lip.  To achieve this look, I lined my lips with MAC’s Subculture lip liner and overdrew them very slightly (since I don’t have the biggest lips to begin with).
-For the lip color, any nude color will work (or you could even us a concealer!).   I used ELF’s Natural Nymph lipstick making sure to blend out the edge of the lip liner.

And that completes my Lana Del Rey inspired look!
